I'm Vanessa and am a certified Athletic Therapist, working in both injury prevention and rehabilitation of athletes. Although this has been my main profession, I have developed a focus on treating both horses and their riders. My passion for horses began 20 years ago and has continued to only grow over the years. Starting out in weekly riding lessons, to helping train horses and then to working in a show barn and managing a broodmare farm of 30 mares. During that time I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of athletes, coaches, and horses which has shown me that I needed to find a way to treat both human clients as well as horses.
As head Athletic Therapist for Algonquin College and owner/therapist of Algonquin Sports Therapy Clinic, I have seen a variety of injuries, from a rolled ankle, to ruptured ligaments and broken bones, but the most concerning injury I was seeing was concussions in my athletes. After learning about CranioSacral Therapy and the benefits it has I knew this was a form of treatment I wanted to learn and provide to my clients. When going through the course I learned that these techniques could be used on equines. After completing my education I was very excited to use my new techniques. So I started treating my own horse. The changes and improvements were incredible. He was having problems picking up his right lead, didn't matter who was on him or if he was being lunged. After just only one treatment and a great release he was willing and engaged to pick his right lead up. From then on I knew I needed to show others the benefits this light touch technique can do.
I have blended my education in Athletic Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy with Equine CranioSacral Therapy, to help bring balance to the horse and rider combination. Both may experience injuries that need to be treated and rehabilitated to ensure they are able to return to their sport rapidly and functionally.
I am committed to providing injury prevention and rehabilitation in the equestrian community to both riders and their horses.
